What is an iris-fold card?

Iris-folding is a unique way of folding various papers in a design that layers the papers. I use it mainly when making greeting cards.

Iris folding is a paper craft technique that involves folding strips of colored paper in such a way as to form a design. The center of the design forms an iris shape reminiscent of the iris diaphragm of a camera lens.

I picked this up in 2020 when I found some crafts for sale on Marketplace as a birthday present to myself. I was only interested in the stamps, but it came with a bunch of beautiful papers. Tucked away were a few completed cards and some patterns. I tried a pattern or two and was hooked.

I use this technique as my main card-making go-to and love to come up with new design layouts. For this, I have to thank my mother. I was looking for something to keep me busy while caring for my mom, who had recently come to live with me. I must admit that it is very therapeutic and helps me with my PTSD and depression.

I can make personal cards with whatever you want them to say, or they can stay blank inside so that you may write your message.
